EDWARDSVILLE, Kan. - Three Edwardsville, Kan. firefighters sustained minor injuries after battling flames Wednesday afternoon.

Fire broke out around noon inside the home at 1032 102nd Street.

Homeowner Mike Caley said he was on the opposite side of the home, heard noises and walked into the kitchen to see a wall of flames coming from the sunroom. Caley said he gathered his son and two dogs, and they all escaped unharmed.

The same cannot be said for three firefighters.

Deputy fire chief Kevin Schuler said one was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion and two others received minor injuries after a deck collapsed. All are expected to fully recover.

Embers ignited another fire in the backyard, thanks in part to dry conditions, but firefighters stopped it from spreading.

Damage is estimated at $100,000.

Investigators do not know a cause.
