KANSAS CITY, Missouri - UMKC students brighten up a local elementary school Saturday.
Nearly 200 volunteers from the University of Missouri-Kansas City showed up to King/Weeks Elementary to paint classrooms and the halls of the school.
It's all part of the Roos give back program.
Students said it's a great way to meet classmates and help the community at the same time.
"For university students in Kansas City, it's awesome for them to break the ice with new freshman and to get to know each other and really have a sense of belonging not only at UMKC but in Kansas City community as well" said Levi Rash, a UMKC student.
Students said every year they kick off the Fall semester of school with a student body community service project.
