Volunteers spend their Saturday repairing transitional faith-based home for women

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - More than 60 volunteers from Christmas in October helped make repairs to a faith-based transitional living house for women.
Twenty women currently reside at The Princess House on Benton Blvd in Kansas City. Dr. Sarita Graham is the Executive Director. The house is the former historical Wheatley House and was renamed the The Princess Phyllis Wheatley House in memory of Dr. Graham's late daughter, Princess.
The women who live in the house are dealing with issues such as substance abuse, re-entry into society from being incarcerated and some are war veterans. The women are required to participate in special community programs to help them find employment and better themselves to live on their own again.
The dozens of volunteers are spending all day Saturday helping repair the roof, put up new guttering, painting the inside and outside and making repairs to doors and windows.
The rainy weather is keeping crews from finishing some of the outside work, so they plan to come back next weekend.
