KANSAS CITY, Missouri - A water main break shut down a Kansas City intersection late Thursday afternoon.

Police were called around 4:50 p.m. to the intersection of Red Bridge and Holmes Road on a report of a water main break.

When officers arrived, they shut down the intersection and called the Kansas City, Missouri Water Department to the scene.

A spokeswoman with the department said it was a 20 inch main break. It is a transmission main which means water was still able to get to businesses and residents in the area through another way.

Contractors were at the site Friday working to repair the fix, but the intersection was expected to remain closed until at least the afternoon.
