WICHITA, Kan. - A rattlesnake took a bite out of a Kansas man's wallet on Memorial Day weekend.
Steve Witte was in Winfield, Kan. when the snake bit him.
He drove himself to the emergency room at a Wichita hospital.
Witte had to be given antivenom.
The cost? $160,000.
"Antivenom is a very specialized medication we give to snakebite patients that essentially neutralize that venom, a lot of outlying facilities don't have access right away to this specialized medication," said John Ruder, a hospital official.
Witte said his health insurance will cover the bill.
