WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden is praising David Petraeus, the new director of the Central Intelligence Agency, as a man of honor who has always been willing to sacrifice for his country.
Biden made the remarks Tuesday at a swearing-in ceremony at the White House. Biden said Petraeus has excelled in everything he has done. He commended the former four-star general for his leadership in the U.S. military following the Sept. 11 attacks, and for helping transform the service members who joined after those attacks into one of America's greatest military generations.
Petraeus retired from the Army last week. He takes the helm at the CIA following former director Leon Panetta's move to the Pentagon as secretary of Defense.
