RICHMOND, Va. - Did you buy a lottery ticket while passing through a Virginia airport?

You could be the winner of a $217 million jackpot.

The winning ticket in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing was sold at a kiosk at Richmond International Airport, and that means the winner could be anywhere in the world.

"That's pretty crazy they won the Powerball right here in the richmond airport," traveler John O'Shaunessy said.

John and Nancy O'Shaunessy were on their way to the Florida Keys when they saw the signs.

"Initially i thought 'I bet I know somebody that knows somebody that won it,' but once i found out that they won it here at the airport, I said ‘That's crazy. They could be anywhere in the world.’"

Virginia Lottery officials say the winning ticket was bought here sometime this past week.

The Powerball winner generated $10.7 million in revenue for the Virginia Lottery.

"But the true winners are the public school children in Virginia,” said state lottery spokesman Paul Otto.

Virginia public schools get more than $4 million of that.

The winner now has to claim their prize in 180 days.

And that person could literally be anywhere.
