KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Friday morning, a group of 12 cyclists left Kansas City enroute to Saint Louis. It was just the first leg of a long journey.
The group of Navy sailors, including 11 men and one woman, are biking 250 miles. Once the bikers get to the "Gateway of the West," they'll be running in the Rock and Roll Marathon.
The Navy sailors are raising money for "The Mission Continues" charity. The Missouri-based charity helps post-9/11 veterans to get involved with fellowship, community service and other opportunities to serve their communities after leaving the military.
While many people have called the group crazy, Bryan Melnuk said it's a nice way to give back.
"We set limitations on ourselves. Nothing is unattainable if you want it and you have the drive, you can achieve anything you set your mind to,” Melnuk said with a smile. “In the end, we’ll feel good in their hearts, though their bodies may disagree after all those miles.”
