KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Mike Burke congratulated Kansas City mayor-elect Sly James on winning last night’s election. Burke said he is proud that the two long-time friends ran “clean, issue oriented campaigns.”
During his concession speech, Burke thanked his family, campaign staff and volunteers gathered inside a ballroom at the Westin Crown Center hotel.
Burke told them Kansas City is still getting a capable mayor. In fact, Burke said he is willing to serve with James to help improve the city.
“On a personal basis, I’m ready to move ahead,” Burke told supporters. “I’m so proud of the campaign that we ran. I wouldn’t have done anything differently. We set out when we first started to run the cleanest, issue-oriented campaign that we can. I’m proud that we did.”
Burke said he will now focus his energy on helping get the city’s earnings tax passed on April 5th.
