LAWRENCE, Kan. - An off-duty Lawrence police officer was heavily intoxicated the morning he died in a single-vehicle car accident earlier this year.
Matthew Klock, 29, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, when the Nissan Altima he was driving crashed into a light pole at the intersection of West Sixth Street and Wakarusa Drive in Lawrence.
Klock’s blood alcohol content was .255 at the time of the crash, according to autopsy results referenced in an updated incident report released Thursday.
The legal limit in the state of Kansas is .08.
Klock was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to investigators.
