MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. - A father accidentally shot his 16-year-old son Saturday as the two prepared to hunt in Miami County, Kan.

The shooting occurred just before 1 p.m. as the two were near 255th Street and Old Kansas City Road, according to a news release from the Miami County Sheriff's Department.

The father got out of his vehicle and reached back inside to grab his rifle stored behind the seat. The rifle discharged and a bullet slammed into the scope on his son's rifle.

That rifle was next to the teen. Bullet fragments went into the son's hand and abdomen, the release states.

No word on the severity of the wounds.
