LEAWOOD, Kan. - A Johnson County, Kan., woman studying at an Ohio music school is making worldwide headlines after she won a stalking order against her parents in court.

Aubrey Ireland, 21, a student at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, filed the request in Hamilton County, Ohio Common Pleas Court in September. When court-ordered mediation in the case failed, a judge decided to grant Ireland’s request.

The stalking order means her parents -- David and Julie Ireland of Leawood, Kan. – must stay at least 500 feet away from Aubrey at all times. The order lasts until at least Sept. 23, 2013.

Ireland’s unusual case was featured on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Friday. Also, the case has garnered attention in various media outlets including The Huffington Post and The Daily Mail in Britain.

Ireland said she filed for the order after her parents accused her of sexual promiscuity and using illegal drugs. The parents would drive 600 miles to check up on her unannounced, and installed monitoring devices on her computer and cell phone, she said.

After one of her performances, Ireland said her parents accosted her inside the theater, and in the parking lot.  She also claims her mother wrote a letter to the school that said her daughter needed to be brought back to Kansas.

Shortly before a December court hearing, her parents demanded she repay $60,000 they had spent on tuition. After Ireland’s parents cut her off, CCM gave her a full scholarship.

Ireland alleges her parents have been diagnosed with co-dependency disorder, but they counter that their daughter is just a good actor and alleges she's "lying" about their behavior.
