OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Blue Valley School District is taking the lead when it comes to school safety. Since the recent tragedy in Connecticut, the district has decided to upgrade security entrances and exits in nine schools.
The new improvements will take place during the next two years. Upgrades include adding more cameras, monitors, alert tones and remote door locks. The goal is to give staff the ability to track visitors who enter and exit buildings more accurately.
The nine schools getting the facelifts to their entrances are Indian Valley Elementary, Leawood Elementary, Morse Elementary, Blue Valley Middle, Harmony Middle, Oxford Middle, Prairie Star Middle, Overland Trail Middle and Pleasant Ridge Middle.
District officials hope to have the reconstruction to these schools complete by August 2014. Many Blue Valley schools already have the security measures in place.
