JOHNSON COUNTY, Kansas - Just a heads up for I-435 drivers in Kansas.
You can expect more heavy delays this weekend on the southbound and eastbound lanes of I-435 between Lenexa and Overland Park because of a $3.5 million pavement repair job.
The work zone runs for six miles, starting at 95th Street in Lenexa and extending to Antioch Road in Overland Park. The interstate, one of the busiest in the region, will be down to one lane in areas.
Drivers are frustrated.
"Something needed to be done. But they should have picked another time, not over the weekend," said Jeffrey Larson.
The work starts at 7:30 Friday night and will continue all weekend until 5:30 Monday morning. If you're looking for east-west detours around the work, you might try 87th and 95th Streets to the north or 119th Street to the south.
College Boulevard won't be a good option because the intersection at Antioch Road in Overland Park is closed until Tuesday.
Officials at KDOT said multiple lane closures are required because highway crews are repairing joints between two lanes of traffic.
Another project you might want to look out for this weekend is on westbound Kansas 10 from I-435 to Kansas 7.
Highway crews will close one lane of traffic from 7:30 tonight until 5:30 Saturday morning and then again from 7:30 Saturday night until 5:30 Sunday morning.
