NEW YORK - A dancer from Johnson County is making it big in New York, and stars in NBC's new hit show, '"Smash".
Kristine Covillo has danced all of her life.
She grew up in Leawood, Kan., and graduated from Saint Thomas Aquinas high school.
When Covillo finished school, she moved to New York in pursuit of her dream to become a Broadway dancer.
In October, she auditioned for the new show "Smash" and got the part as one of the dancers.
In the upcoming episode, she plays the character Nancy, who has a speaking role.
"It's been absolutely thrilling. It's very surreal being part of such a huge and amazing project. It's just a dream come true", said Covillo.
"Smash" is just one of Covillo's many accomplishments.
Last year, she was in the opening number at the 65th Annual Tony Awards with Neil Patrick Harris.
"I was very nervous. The whole Broadway community and all these celebrities are in the audience. It was very fun and exciting".
Covillo will continue her dream of dancing in New York City and just recently got the part to star in the Broadway production of 'Evita'.
"She's so excited! I've seen her in a lot of the previews on TV. It's amazing", said her sister Jackie Covillo.
If you can't make it out to the big apple anytime soon to see her shine on the broadway stage, you can see her in the next five episodes of 'Smash'.
'Smash' airs Monday nights at 9 p.m. central right here on your 41 Action News station.
