MERRIAM, Kan. - The long-awaited Ikea store in Johnson County is set to break ground this July.
Kansas Governor Sam Brownback and other community leaders will be at the new Merriam Ikea site July 9 for the groundbreaking event.
The 359,000 square-foot store will be located along the eastern side of Interstate 35 and Johnson Dr.
Ikea will employ 300 workers and feature nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items.
The store will also feature three model home interiors, 50 room-settings, a supervised children's play area, and a 450-seat restaurant.
The Ikea in Merriam opens Fall 2014.
