MERRIAM, Kan. - Police are diverting morning drivers around Johnson County railroad tracks where a man was run over by a train early Wednesday.
According to Merriam police, the train’s conductor spotted the man laying on the tracks near 57th and Kessler Lane around 1:55 a.m., but was unable to stop the train before it struck him.
Police say drivers on Johnson Drive are being shifted around the site of the incident. Eastbound drivers are being diverted onto Merriam Drive. Westbound commuters are getting onto Interstate 35.
The empty train was headed north on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks, police said.
