MISSION, Kan. - A teenager is in custody after shooting his 6-year-old cousin at a chiropractor's office in Mission, according to Johnson County authorities.
The shooting occurred around 11 a.m. Tuesday at the office in the 6000 block of Martway.
Both cousins were in the lobby when the chiropractor heard a loud bang.
"From what I understand, (the boy) had it in his hoodie and it went through that, hit the girl's leg, hit the floor, ricocheted, hit the wall and they found the bullet about 10 feet away," said office manager Chuck Malachek.
Witnesses who ran to the scene said the doctor grabbed the gun from the teenager.
The injured girl was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police haven't said who owns the gun, or how the 14-year-old obtained the weapon. There's been no word why the two children were at the office in the middle of a school day.
Mission police will turn the case over to the prosecutor, who will decide whether any charges will be filed.
