SHAWNEE, Kansas - Police in Shawnee on Wednesday night held a checkpoint seeking information on the murder of a liquor store owner.
Officers stopped cars in the 7600 block of Northbound Quivira Road between 9:30 and 10:30 p.m. They were hoping to gather information from anyone who may have been in the area on May 12 at about the same time.
That is when Gerry Grovenburg was killed inside the liquor store he owned at 7635 Quivira.
Soon after his death, investigators released a sketch of a person of interest in the case and said he was likely traveling with a white woman with blonde hair driving a red compact vehicle.
In Wednesday’s checkpoint, Shawnee Police said they hoped to talk with motorists who were driving through the area at about the same time on the same day of the week as when Grovenburg, 61, was killed.
Capt. Rob Moser says officers checked about 240 vehicles. He says they gathered some “good information” which may lead to addition leads in the case.
Moser said officers also arrested one driver for DUI.
No arrests have been made in Grovernburg’s murder. If you know anything about what happened, call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
