LENEXA, Kan. - The stakes are high for a group of Johnson County, Kan., dads when it comes to kids.
The Supporting Kids Foundation hosted their annual Texas Hold 'em Poker Tournament Friday night in Lenexa. The organization works to raise money to help families battling childhood cancers.
All the money stays locally to help sick kids and their families, which allows them to focus on getting well and not worry about the financial pressures.
“We want to do everything we can to support them so that they can focus on their child,” said Supporting Kids Foundation board member Jehan Moore. “Because that's what's most important, and not having to worry about the bills piling up while their focus is on that child.”
In 2012, Supporting Kids Foundation raised over $100,000. That allowed them to help 44 families with sick children.
