MERRIAM, Kan. - One person is dead and at least one other is injured after a multi-vehicle accident in Johnson County Tuesday afternoon.

Police said a passenger vehicle and a pickup truck were headed west near the 9800 block of 67th Street, where two lanes of traffic merge to one. The driver of the car was attempting to pass the pickup truck, when the truck clipped the back end of the car.

The car then swerved into the eastbound lane of traffic and collided with a minivan.

The driver of the car, a 20-year-old female from Shawnee, Kan., was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the minivan was not injured. A 71-year-old passenger in the van suffered minor injuries.

Police said both the pickup truck and the car were speeding. The posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour.

Authorities believe both cars may have been traveling at 50 miles per hour.
