KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Police are investigating new details of Monday’s fatal car wreck that killed 14-year-old Casey Knight and left another girl hospitalized.
Authorities are investigating if the car she was in was stolen and if her friends are responsible for her death.
Shortly after the car crashed near 12th and Dodson in Kansas City, Kan., police said at least five teens that were in the car with Casey fled the scene.
Police have determined that Casey was not driving the car at the time of the crash and have located the minors who fled the scene. Police did not tell 41 Action News where the teens were going and who owned the vehicle.
The Turner School District said they have extra counselors on hand this week to help students cope.
A vigil is set to be held at the Turner Recreational Center Wednesday at 7 p.m. to remember Casey.
