One dead, one seriously hurt in wrong-way crash on I-70 in Kansas City, Kan.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - One person died and another was seriously injured in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 70 Wednesday night.

Emergency crews were dispatched out to the westbound lanes of I-70 on the Lewis and Clark Viaduct at 7:45 p.m. When they arrived, they located two cars in a crash.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report, a Ford Explorer driven by a 66-year-old man from Kansas City, Kan., was headed eastbound in the westbound lanes with no headlights.

The Explorer struck a westbound Ford Escort driven by 47-year-old William Jerdee, of Kansas City, Mo.

Jerdee died at the scene. The driver of the Explorer was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The westbound lanes of I-70 were closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
