KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Several buildings in downtown Kansas City, Kan., - including the police department - were evacuated after a gas leak.
The evacuation occurred Tuesday afternoon, when the smell of gas was reported near 7th Street and Minnesota. Employees at the police station, El Centro, Security Bank and several other small businesses left the buildings as a precaution.
The leak was capped just after 2 p.m., according to the Kansas City Kansas Fire Department. Fire officials say a construction crew struck a two-inch gas line while replacing sewer and storm drains.
Gas company worker checked the gas levels in the buildings and cleared them for reentry around 3 p.m.
