2 Shawnee Mission schools alerted during standoff in Overland Park

Two schools in Overland Park were put on alert Tuesday afternoon while authorities attempted to make contact with a man in a standoff with police.
A Shawnee Mission School District Spokeswoman says John Diemer Elementary School, 9600 Lamar, and Indian Woods Middle School, 9700 Woodson, were put on alert at about 1 p.m.
The active scene has ended at a home in the 9700 block of Walmer, where police were attempting to make contact with a possibly mentally-disturbed man.
District officials said the alert was canceled after 30 minutes.
