OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The parking lot of a Johnson County gas station is closed while crews work to clean up a fuel spill.
An underground tank was being filled at the QuikTrip, 9200 Santa Fe, in Overland Park, around 4:15 a.m. when the spill happened. Officials say about 100 gallons spilled into the parking lot and into a nearby storm drain.
The Overland Park Fire Department tested the air in the drain to ensure there was no danger of explosion. The air tested at safe levels.
The Kansas Department of Emergency Management and the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment has arrived on the scene and is working to clear the storm drains of the fuel.
Authorities have closed about four blocks of 83rd Street in the area while they work to remove the fuel.
