OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - A grand jury may review a controversial statue in Overland Park.
The American Family Association of Kansas and Missouri gathered 4,500 signatures to get a grand jury to examine a sculpture at the Overland Park Arboretum they say is offensive.
Critics say the arboretum is no place for the bare-breasted sculpture and they want it removed.
“It wasn’t that difficult to find people that felt this was, at the very least, inappropriate and that does fit the promotion of obscenity to a minor,” said Phillip Cosby, state director of the American Family Association.
Proponents argue the artwork is not meant to be pornographic but to spark conversation.
