PAOLA, Kan. - A family was rescued from a Kansas lake early Tuesday morning after getting stranded in their boat when their boat hit a sandbar.
The Miami County Sheriff says the four people had been boating on Hillsdale Lake in Paoloa since about 3 p.m. Monday.
They called 911 when they became stuck on the sandbar in the area of 247th and Harmony Road late Monday night, the sheriff said.
The summer drought has dropped the water level in the lake about six feet, according to the sheriff.
No boat was available in Miami County, so Johnson County Fire and Rescue crews assisted in getting the family off their boat.
Everybody was back safe on dry land by a little before 2 a.m.
