BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. - Our "Places to Go" series showcases local attractions and this week we head a little west, to Bonner Springs, Kansas.
It’s all aboard for fun and education at the Ag Hall of Fame .
Here, kids and adults can ride a miniature train and feel the breeze in their hair.
If you didn't know the agriculture industry had, or needed, a Hall of Fame, allow them to educate you.
"One of the things we say here and our shirts say ‘if you eat you are involved in agriculture,'" said Cathi Hahner, Ag Hall of Fame Executive Director.
And the message at this Bonner Springs attraction seems to be getting across.
"Yes, we've seen a sudden surge in interest of where people's food comes from. They like to come out here, learn a little more from the educational garden and then also some of our exhibits that show the dairy industry, the poultry industry, and other farming activities," Hahner observed.
Just down the road is the Wyandotte County Museum .
Here you can come face to face with the original residents of the county and get hands-on experience with their way of life.
Then you'll meet those who settled afterwards.
You should walk away with a new understanding and appreciation of Wyandotte County's heritage.
If you feel like you've lost your marbles, you might want to go to the moon ... Moon Marble Company that is.
Here you can watch them make handcrafted marbles using flames and glass, and learn all about the process while being entertained.
And of course, you can purchase marbles in a variety of sizes from miniature to almost cannonball.
The place is also packed with colorful and zany toys.
If the combination of open flame and summer heat makes you want to cool off, maybe you should bring your bathing suit and join the locals for a cooling dip at the Bonner Springs Aquatic Park .
Wherever you go in Bonner Springs you won't be alone.
"This area is really growing and we're thrilled. With things happening and the tourist industry being a little down, this area is booming,” Hahner said.
