BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - A trumpet player from Blue Springs South High School is on the way to the big time.

Johnny Rotolo is leaving for New York on Thursday for a performance at Carnegie Hall.

He’s part of the American High School Honors Band and will be performing in a special concert on Sunday.

To get ready for the trip, he’s practicing at least 30 minutes a day along with keeping up with two college courses and calculus.

“I’ve never been to New York,” said Rotolo. “I feel so lucky that I get the chance to go there.

“I’ve always dreamed of performing somewhere that big, and I just want to do it my entire life.”

Rotolo’s band director nominated him for the recognition.

He’s been playing the trumpet since the sixth grade.
