Cass County teen dies in overnight crash

PECULIAR, Mo. - A Cass County teenager died Friday morning in a single-vehicle accident in Peculiar.

Jake Mills, 19, of Peculiar, died in the crash Friday on Route J at about 198th Street, according to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Mills was a 2011 graduate of Ray-Pec Academy, according to the district.

“The district extends its sympathy to Jake's family and friends,” the district said in a statement.

According to the crash report, Mills was headed northbound on Route J when he lost control on the ice-covered roadway, crossed the center line, left the roadway, struck a culvert and flipped onto its top.

Mills, who according to the report was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene.
