Clay County authorities confirmed Tuesday that a body found in a submerged vehicle on Sunday was Robert Walter.
Walter was last seen on Aug. 3 near 17th Street and Madison Avenue. A message was posted Monday night on the Facebook page dedicated to finding the 20-year-old identifying Walter as the body in the car.
A spokesman with the sheriff's office said a couple walking Sunday evening near a pond near the intersection of NE 100th Street and Missouri Highway H spotted a car upside down in the pond and called sheriff's deputies.
When deputies inspected the car, they located Walter's body inside.
A cause of death has not been determined, but authorities said Walter's death was not suspicious. They said it appeared to be accidental.
