GRANDVIEW, Mo. - Get caught without your seat belt in Grandview, Mo., and be prepared to dish out a few extra bucks.
A new ordinance has increased the seat belt fine from $10 to $50 and mirrors the new ordinance put into place in Kansas City, Mo.
It also allows officers to pull you over simply for not wearing a seat belt.
Last year, Missouri saw an increase in fatal car crashes where the person was not wearing a seat belt.
“Seat belts save lives. There's no doubt about it. And if you're wearing your seat belt and you get into an accident, the seat belt will keep you safe." Martin Studdard of the Grandview Police Department said.
The new ordinance went into effect July 9th.
