INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The former Independence pastor charged with murdering a church member made his first court appearance Thursday.
Shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday, Jackson County Sheriff's deputies escorted David Love from an airplane to a patrol car and drove him to Independence for his appearance in court.
Love would make only one statement.
"Thank you for your prayers and concern for our family".
The judge told Love that he would be held without any chance to post bond because he is considered a flight risk.
Also, Love’s arraignment has been delayed two weeks because he said he wanted time to find a lawyer.
Love is accused of having an affair with a church member and killing her husband, 42-year-old Randy Stone, on March 31 at Stone's Farmer's Insurance office.
Several relatives of the Stone attended the hearing.
An aunt named Beverly said, “I hope he gets what he deserves. He was a preacher. He was having an affair and all that. I think it’s disgusting. I think the whole thing is just mind boggling.”
Relatives had previously said that Stone’s wife told them she’d been having an affair with Love for a decade.
