INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - A man suffered serious injuries Friday night after being struck by a Kansas City, Mo., water department truck in Independence.
Police were called out to U.S. 40 Highway near 36th Street just after 7:15 p.m.
When they arrived, they found the man suffering from serious injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police described his injuries as non-life-threatening.
Police blocked the westbound lanes of the highway while they investigated the incident. All lanes were back open by 8:45 p.m.
The Water Services Department says the driver was on his way to a water main break when the incident occurred. He remained on the scene to answer questions from police.
Officers say it appears to be an unfortunate accident, and they do not anticipate pressing charges.
