INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - Detectives want to know whose bones were found along the Little Blue River Monday.
The Jackson County Sheriff and Independence Police are testing the bones to see if they could be connected to any missing person cases.
Jackson County detectives searched a three-mile area along the rugged terrain of the creek Tuesday.
Two men who were walking the nearby trail found the bones of a hand and forearm Monday afternoon.
Around 30-40 people continue to search for any other remains in the creek. They did not find anything else Tuesday.
They have sent the bones for DNA testing and to a forensic anthropologist to help determine the identity.
Sheriff Mike Sharp said they have already determined it is not Summer Shipp. She was a door to door salesperson who disappeared during work.
Sharp said they hope science will give them more clues in the next week. Detectives could return to the scene Wednesday.
Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline, 816-474-TIPS.
