KANSAS CITY, Mo - Crews worked late into Saturday night cleaning up a fiery crash between a car and a semi in Independence, Mo.

The crash occurred on eastbound Interstate 70, between Phelps and Lee's Summit roads.

Responders said the car blew a tire and was hit by the 18-wheeler. The truck then burst into flames.

Both directions of the interstate were closed for several hours. They reopened around 12:15 a.m. Sunday.

Two female passengers, ages 10 and 12, had minor injuries and were treated at an area hospital. No other details on injuries were immediately available.
