INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - A house fire in Independence burned for more than two hours on Tuesday, destroying the home and displacing the family who lives there.
The two-alarm fire broke out around 12:30 p.m. on the 700 block of S. Park. Three teenagers at the residence were able to escape without injuries.
Firefighters were pulled out of the house because of fears the roof would fall in. The Independence Fire Department called for backup to ensure the flames didn't spread to any other homes. It took two hours for crews to extinguish the fire.
There's been no word on what may have sparked the fire. The teens think it may have started on the back porch. Authorities are investigating.
The family is staying with members of their church.
