INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - Two local police departments honored officers killed in the line of duty.
Friday afternoon, Independence and Sugar Creek police held a memorial in the front of the Independence Police Department.
Friends and family members of fallen officers were on hand to remember their loved ones.
Independence Chief of Police Tom Dailey said it's a very meaningful day for everyone in the community.
"I think it's important for all the citizens and politicians to support the officers. It's a wonderful ceremony, but it's a reality check of the dangers these officers face every day," Dailey said.
Memorial services are held at least once a year in the metro to honor those who served our country.
