INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - UPDATE 8:20 p.m. | Police have cleared the scene and re-opened E. 39th Street after determining the suspicious package to be the hind portion of a deer.
EARLIER | Independence Police are investigating a suspicious package along E. 39th Street.
At about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, police were called out to near the intersection of E. 39th Street and S. Selsa Road after at least one motorist reported seeing a suspicious package inside of a cooler.
When officers arrived on scene, they located a suspicious package underneath a bridge and called in bomb investigators to determine if the device posses any threat.
Police have blocked off E. 39th Street in the area while they complete the investigation.
