KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City teen has been charged for his involvement in an Independence home invasion that left one man shot in the face.

Juan Hayes, 19, was charged with assault, burglary and two counts of armed criminal action.

According to the Jackson County Prosecutor's office, Hayes was one of three suspects who went to rob a home on the 9800 block of Winner Road on July 13.

The other two suspects have not been identified.

Upon entering the home, Hayes heard the homeowner say to get out, according to court records.

While trying to retrieve a handgun from his bedroom, one of the suspects shot the homeowner in the face. All three fled the scene in green Pontiac Grand Prix, taking the homeowner's cell phone with them.

Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash. The case remains under investigation.
