INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - Civil War history was reenacted on Sunday in Independence, Mo.
The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War reenacted what’s known as Order Number 11.
Its goal of the order was to try to get Confederate sympathizers to western Missouri. It resulted in hundres of people leaving three counties so much so that the area was scarcely populated after the war.
Organizers say they are holding the reenactment for a specific purpose.
"Honor the people that really preserved the union for us, if we don't know the true history, how can we really do honor to our current servicemen who are serving in all the bad stuff that happens in war?" Bob Steiert of the group said.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of Order Number 11.
