JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. - A severed foot was found in a shoe in Jackson County, not far from where the remains of a human hand were found last month.
Rhonda Montgomery of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department said that a man found the foot and shoe along the Little Blue River on Tuesday, near East Blue Mills Road and Old Atheron Road.
Officials said that they were able to recover toenails in the shoe, which they hope to use to extract DNA. They're unsure whether the remains were male or female.
The foot was found in an area north of where the department had previously searched for remains after the hand bones were found in June. No link has been made between the two discoveries.
An investigation is underway. Stay with KSHB.com for updates.
