LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. - A fire at a Lee’s Summit retirement community has left some residents displaced.

Just before 5 a.m., Emergency crews responded to the Villager East apartments at John Know Village on reports of a structure fire.

Authorities say a fire was burning inside the outside wall and balcony between two third story apartments.

Public safety officials evacuated the building and the fire was contained by 5:15 a.m., police said. No injuries were reported.

Smoke damage and demolition from reaching the fire made two apartments uninhabitable, according to authorities.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
