Lee's Summit, Mo. - An area woman believes she saw a mountain lion while driving to work recently, a local newspaper has reported.

Donna Chapin told the Lee’ Summit Journal that she saw what she believes was a mountain lion near Summit Ridge Academy on SW Ward Road.

“It definitely was a mountain,” Chapin told the paper. “It was bigger with a long tail.”

Mountain lion sightings aren’t unheard of in the Kansas City area or in Missouri with more than a dozen reported sightings across the state in the last year.

The newspaper says the Missouri Department of Conservation is working to verify Chapin’s report.
