A 12-year-old girl has been taken to a local area hospital following a swimming incident.
It happened around 11:30 a.m. in the 900 block of NW Shore Dr. near Lake Waukomis. The girl was in the lake for about 10 to 15 minutes before being recovered. After responders found her, they performed CPR and the child was rushed to a local area hospital.
Lake Waukomis Mayor Charlie Hinson said that the girl was swimming in the lake using a “noodle.” She slipped off of the noodle became submerged in water. The girls was reportedly staying with family when she decided to go swimming.
Neighbors jumped in the lake to find the girl, including Lake Waukomis police Chief William Massock. As they attempted to locate the girl, emergency responders were called to the scene.
The girl was not wearing a life jacket. Her condition is unknown at this moment.
