LIBERTY, Mo. - Several buildings in Liberty Public Schools were placed on a precautionary lockdown Thursday while authorities searched for a suspicious man spotted at Liberty High School.
According to a statement from the district, the reporting party reported the man was dressed in dark clothing and carrying a weapon.
Liberty High School, Liberty Academy, Alexander Doniphan Elementary, Liberty Middle School, and the District Administration Center were all placed in what the district called a “Level 1” lockdown.
Police searched the area and found no threat. The buildings remained locked down until given clearance by police.
According to the district, a Level 1 lockdown means all exterior doors were locked while normal operating procedures continued inside.
The district said the buildings will remain on heightened alert for the remainder of the day.
“Safety is the top priority of Liberty Public Schools,” the district statement said, “and we want to ensure you that all students are safe.”
