KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City, Mo., man will serve at least 10 years in prison after assaulting a man in a Northland Walmart in an act of road rage.
Cornelius D. Moore, 33, was sentenced for breaking another man’s nose and permanently damaged his eye in a beating July 25, 2010 at the Walmart at Interstate-29 and Barry Road.
The victim told police he was leaving the store when he saw another car coming at him at a high rate of speed from a different direction and sped up to avoid the other car.
After the victim had pulled into another store, Moore banged on the car window of the victim, eventually dragging the victim out, striking the victim repeatedly in the face and eventually causing the victim to lose consciousness.
Platte County, Mo., prosecutor Eric Zahnd said Moore was sentenced to 14 years in prison, of which he must serve 85 percent of the time.
“The victim in this case was viciously attacked in broad daylight while out on a Sunday afternoon shopping trip,” Zahnd said in a release. “This shockingly random act of violence deserved substantial punishment.”
Authorities say Moore was on probation for a previous assault. He had previously been found guilty of two other felony assaults and three municipal assaults.
