KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A local Best Buy store is going out of business, and the district manager says that the store will offer discounts on its merchandise before the store closes.

The store at 509 NW Barry Rd. will close on Feb. 14, or when all merchandise is sold.

A statement released by Pat Britton, Best Buy’s District Manager in the area said:

“After evaluating local market trends and the needs of the community we decided there were nearby Best Buy locations ideally suited to cover those needs. ”

The statement continued:

“Please know we have made this decision in a thoughtful and deliberate manner, with an eye toward community growth and evolution and with a focus on our company values. Our decision process involves everything from considering store relocation to renegotiating leases, and in rare instances such as this, closure. ”

The two nearest Best Buys close to the Barry Road store will remain open.

There are several other metro-area Best Buys that will remain open, including locations in Kansas City, Kan., Olathe, Kan., two stores in Overland Park, Kan., a store in Lee’s Summit, Mo., and a location in Independence, Mo.

The release from Best Buy said that the store will be closed until Feb. 2, when they will open at 10 a.m. and offer “deep discounts” on open box merchandise.

Best Buy's stock dropped about 32 percent in 2011.
