KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A woman is in the hospital and a family pet is gone after a morning fire near Gladstone.
Emergency crews were called to the 5400 block of N. Tracy just before 9 a.m., on what they thought was a medical emergency. When they arrived, they found a husband and wife near the front door and flames shooting out of the house.
The woman suffered burn injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The husband was also injured, but refused medical treatment. Their dog died in the fire.
Authorities said the bedroom had major damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, although Fire Chief James Garrett said it could have been caused by careless smoking.
